What PDF is useful for
A PDF can preserve the arrangement of headings, illustrations, tables, and writing spaces. This is useful when a page’s visual structure matters or you want to print a permitted copy at a predictable size.
The tradeoff is reading on a small screen: a full-size page may require zooming and panning. Some readers offer alternative viewing modes, but results depend on the document and app. A PDF is not automatically accessible simply because the text looks clear.
What EPUB is useful for
Many EPUB books allow you to change text size and let paragraphs wrap to the available width. This can suit continuous reading on a phone or ereader.
Not every EPUB is reflowable; fixed-layout EPUBs also exist. Image-heavy books and complex layouts may behave differently. Compatibility and available features depend on the app, device, file, and any restrictions applied to it.

- Which file formats are actually included?
- Can your chosen device or app open them?
- Is the book primarily continuous text or a visual layout?
- Are printing, annotation, or accessibility features described?
- How will you receive and retain the download?
Do not assume a product includes both formats or a particular app license. Read the listing and any seller instructions before checkout.
Choose by use case
For reading a novel during short phone sessions, adjustable text may be your priority. For printing an activity sheet, predictable page layout and print permission may matter more. For a richly illustrated children’s book, preview how text and images work together on the intended screen.
If accessibility is essential, ask about your specific requirement rather than relying on the file extension. Tagged structure, text alternatives, navigation, and reading order require attention during production.

Keep the original file and purchase information somewhere you can find again. Test a few pages before a trip or an offline reading session. File conversion can alter formatting, and restrictions may limit what is permitted.
